Fox Park Music Studio Classes and Performances
Bringing Music to Life with Practice & Performance
Fox Park Music Studio Classes And Performances
Group & Studio Classes
Like everything else, in order to become comfortable with and get good at anything, one needs to practice. Performance is no exception. Group & Studio Classes are offered to both students at Fox Park Music Studio as well as to students from other studios, space permitting. Both classes are included in tuition and regular attendance is expected. Neither Group Class nor Studio Class is meant to be a substitute for private lessons, but rather supplemental instruction for those already enrolled in private lessons.
Group Class: Group playing of fiddle, holiday, Suzuki and other group-based repertoire with scales, ear training, music theory, and games thrown into the mix. Group Class is restricted to Suzuki students, except for the December Holiday Groups, which focus on rehearsing Christmas Carols.
Studio Class: Solo Performances with Accompaniment, where students get to practice being both the soloist as well as the audience.
For those students from other studios who would like to participate in Group or Studio Classes, the per class rate is $15. Please call in advance to see if space is available!
Building Repertoire and Building Community
I believe that music is both an essential part of the human experience as well as something which needs to be shared with others. As such, one of the aims of the studio is to get students not just to hone their skills inside of the practice room, but also to get out and into the community with their music. In addition to regularly scheduled recitals, students are encouraged to arrange their own recitals for family and friends, play for fundraisers, gig, and volunteer their talents.
Three times per year (Halloween, Christmas and Mother’s Day), the studio plays for the wonderful women atThe Mary Ryder Home a retirement home for underprivileged women here in the City of St. Louis. Students are encouraged to engage, interact, and connect with the residents during the performance. Many have also gone on to “adopt” the women beyond the performance, making cards and even extra trips to give special performances and visit with their “adoptee.”
